Fun with satellites
Skyview is a cool service brought to you by WA’s Department of Land Information. It allows you to get high resolution satellite images — “Objects between 1 and 1.5 metres on the ground can be identified” — of pretty much anywhere in the State. And it’s fun! Hover above the pictures below for an explanation.

are there any detention centres left in WA? US military bases? Tim tam factories?
Oooh, opulent.
(Aargh! You used ALT instead of TITLE! No! Bad Rob! Broken browsers display ALT as a tooltip, rather than as a replacement for an image that doesn’t d/l or isn’t supported. Everyone else will show a tooltip with TITLE and use ALT for when it’s really needed.)
Sure, there’s a detention centre at Port Hedland and one at the Perth International Airport. The US has a bombing range at Lancelin (though I’m pretty sure you can’t see it with Skyview). But Tim Tam factories? I doubt it.
Sorry Mark. I couldn’t remember the right tag but (believe it or not) I knew you would tell me within a few hours! Fixed now…
How did you copy the images from the site? Right clicking is the extent of my knowledge, and it won’t let me do that.
thats brilliant….now If i could just find one in Vic….
Jonas — I took a screen capture (Print Screen) and pasted it into editing software.
The Jones’s pool needn’t be bigger than yours with a little Photoshopping.
Typically, it doesn’t support my usual browser, but looking at it in IE it’s fantastic.
Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that. They are working on a cross-browser version at the moment, though, which will be awesome.
Wow, if I look closely enough I can almost see the car I was driving when I gave you a lift home!
What’s wrong with people…Skyview not available for Mac users?! What makes you PC users think you’re so superior??
Well, I must admit knowing that I paid a few hundred dollars for my machine, as opposed to $3000, makes me feel pretty damn smug. But rest assured we don’t all feel/act superior to Mac users.
Just the owner of that Skyview service.
