Good riddance

I’ve been following Perth’s Nazi problem for some time now, but haven’t covered the latest developments.

In a nutshell, a bunch of members of Jack van Tongeren’s Australian Nationalist Movement covered houses and synagogues with racist stickers and graffiti. Police caught the bastards, and uncovered plots to kill various people — Jim McGinty, the head of the ethnic communities’ council. A property was raided, but van Tongeren has gone into hiding, claiming that ASIO is trying to assassinate him.

Now police are concerned for the safety of two more people: a former ANM member who testified against them, and “a man identified as the leader of the ANM’s so-called paramilitary arm who is believed to have been a key player in the recent racist graffiti attacks.”

A couple of those involved in the recent graffiti attacks are going to jail, which is excellent news.

Earlier this year I received threats of violence from one nutter, and hate mail from others. Unfortunately, the dickhead who made the threats was given a suspended sentence because he was driving the getaway car. Fortunately, he seems to be in the shit with his Stormfront mates for denouncing his beliefs in court.

Mark, I was updating the post as you commented — he’s not going to jail, he got a six month suspended sentence.

On the other hand, he got the lighter sentence because he denounced the ANM, which has led to his Stormfront mates calling him a “dog”. I doubt his repentance was serious, but hopefully he cops shit from his moronic mates.

Wihtout diminishing the acts of these people a custodial sentence for a person with a minor criminal record for an offence of wilful damage should not be seen as lenient.
The crime is at the lower end of the scale and does not ordinarily involve mroe than a fine. The Magistrate is bound by fairness and a duty to take the act in isolation as part of sentencing.
The best thing to come from this sordid episode is the realisation by people that more must be done to stop these sort of acts in our city. We pride ourselves as an open minded multi-cultural country, perhaps we all need to do more than pay lip service to those ideals. And yes I include myself as someone who must do more.

Yobbo, the comment is one I left, in which I mentioned a threat I had received (your site loads fine for me, btw).

I wonder if those are the same folks whose racist graffiti adorned the mosque in Northbridge when I was in Perth last year.

    If so: good.

It’d be nice if it was ‘good riddance’, but unfortunately this group and their affiliated groups are quite entrenched in Australia from what I can gather.
I really applaud the police position of total intolerance of this, it would be good if they looked a bit further though, into possible affiliates and funding.
Let’s hope it becomes a federal imperative.
I believe as a country we have the capacity to stamp out racist violence and as much as I dislike the intelligence services, generally they really do quite a good job of containing this sort of thing in Oz, which is 1 of the things that makes it a really great country to live in.

Yes, this is the real Ben Weerheym, incase you wanted to know.

what a load of garbage you lot speak.

I don’t know where to start… perhaps your rants about me supposedly “urging people to blow up an asian nightclub” – what rot!
If me saying this means that I seriously wanted to blow something up then please, someone arrest Ted Bullpit from ‘Kingswood Country’ as he wanted to blow things up often.

This is a total muck-rake! something I would expect from people such as yourselves. You beleive everything the media tells you, many of you will protest that “the media” lies and that you do not beleive them for a minute but hey, what are you doing now!? There are a number of things that you have obviously no idea about – this is evident from your unfounded and incorrect assumptions here, on other internet sites and surely your knitting circles!

that is all I have to say, this whole saga has been and is ridiculous and so are the sheeple that have swallowed everything they have been told.

Actually, I feel as though I left out a rather important part in my previous post.

I have never been responsible for malicious and frightening grafitti but I have been party to it. I have always disagreed with vandalizing property and frightening people with a view to anything positive. This ranges from racist grafitt on a wall or someone painting “NO WAR” on the Sydney Opera House. Before these charges were bought forward, I was under the impression that posting bills in public places was legal unless otherwise stated. AT this, shouldn’t the promoters of concerts, festivals and those wishing to retreive their lost pet be hauled before the courts for Criminal Damage?
The posters I was responsible for included political slogans and never anything that qualifies the status of “racism” and thats how I wanted it to stay

I do have a conscience and have tried to apoligise with a letter to people that have been effected in the community, this has not been an attempt in gaining sympathy, as much as you people would like to think so.

Hang, draw and quarter me if you may. At the end of the day, you will only prove to me that you really are the unreasonable “lefty scum” “sheeple” and/or hypocrites that I have seen so many people speak of on the internet and in real life.
