Gillard won’t rat
Liam Hogan says the idea of Julia Gillard as ALP leader was unrealistic because it would probably require her to switch factions, “which incidentally would make her a rat.” She’s ruled out ratting, which paradoxically makes her more worthy of the leadership.

Rob Corr at Kick & Scream has come up with a good argument for Gillard as leader – unlike Henri IV, for her, Paris isn’t worth a mass. She’s got some convictions….
OK, since she’s not going to have the numbers factionally, where are the votes going to come from? Are you just relying on Labor to see the merit of ‘principle’? This is the Party that brought Billy Hughes into Parliament, remember.
I’m assuming that most of the Westralians, Left and Right, are going to fall into the Beazley camp, and I can tell you now that neither the NSW Left or Right are going to back Gillard.
The NSW Right are far too bigoted to have a woman leader, and the NSW Left will sell out Gillard to try and get one of their own up as Deputy under Beazley. Presumably QLD are going to fall behind Kaptain KRudd, which leaves Gillard with the backing of bits of the Victorian, Southtralian and Taswegian Left.
I just can’t see it.
Hey, I’m not saying she’s going to win. I think Beazley will. As you say, most of WA will back Beazley. You say the Queensland Right will back Rudd, but I read they’re supporting Beazley, which makes Gillard’s task all the more difficult. So get ready for the return of the Bomber.
Yep, the Queensland Right will support the Beazer. The fact that Beattie is, and that he’s from Rudd’s own Labor Unity faction, is significant.
