Bikie helmets
Both the Police Minister and her Shadow say they don’t support a police decision to allow bikies riding in a funeral procession to do so without helmets. This is a big fuss over nothing. The bikies applied for a permit in accordance with the relevant legislation, and their request was granted. Who cares?

Typical Media Beatup , at least acknowledged that while she was unhappy, she respected the police decision as they knew the issues at hand. Unfortunatly this goes back to the Bikie murder back in 1999-2000 when Prince was minister and michelle was opposition police spokesperson/
It is also interesting to note that during Pride, Dykkes on Bikes and other Gay Motorcycle groups also ride without helmets - do the media kick up a fuss ??????
What I want to know is why they make them wear helmets at all. Aren’t the police trying to “crack down” on these groups?
What better way to break up the gangs than to allow them to ride around anywhere without a helmet?
Nice on Yobbo.
The media seems to have a raging hardon for bikie-bashing, so it’s not too much of a surprise. It’s funny, the most vicious crims and most successful drug-dealers usually don’t have long beards and ride motorcycles. They lean toward silk suits… and para-silk track suits on their off days.
I think the reason bikies (not bike riders, bikies) get a bashing is simple - they deserve it. They’ve deliberately placed themselves in a group that acts outside the social and legal norms, and enjoy doing things that are socially legally and morally intolerable. Any politician that wants the bikie vote is welcome to it.
Oh and Giovanni - who do you think does the hard yakka and the intimidation for the silk-suited ones? In return for which, they get all the bikies’ legal work… Someone I knew was severely bashed fifteen years back, just for being around when an exchange was being made on a country backroad, between a Harley and a Beamer. Nuff said…
Re: Bikies Vote. The bikies do call themselves the one percenter.
I’m with you Rob, what’s the fuss about?
The bikies applied for a permit just like everyone else does - they at least exhibited respect for that law.
It wouldn’t have been ethical for the police to grant that request for one group and not another, so at least the polie respected that.
So far as pondering morally vaccuous behaviour is concerned one would have to cast a wide net, with straight crooks and crooked straights - you can’t really judge a book by its cover these days.
Now Car-driver, it’s brutally sad, what happened to your friend - and time and again I reiterate that there is never any excuse for violence, but it goes with the territory.
On a lonely road in the middle of nowhere, where there are bikes and beamers - these things have been known to happen, and worse.
Whilst no-one going in to that scenario wants to contemplate the various inherent risks, they are always in the back of their minds - a work related risk. For some, danger is even part of the lure - not that I am implying it was in your friend’s experience, of course.
It is really important to consider cases like John Pat, the young fellow Detheridge and numerous and countless others, women, children et al, who have suffered/do suffer because of mindless violence.
It is most likely a tolerance for violence that is the root of the problem, and really cannot be isolated to one particular group being worse than others, although perps do mostly seem to be men… just a general observation…
Car driver, I hope your friend is ok.
Cardriver is right. Troy Mercanti doesn’t ride harleys too much these days.
