Barnett says, “Bugger the cost.”
Peter Costello on the Barnett canal:
You would have to sit down and you would have to look at construction costs, you would have to look at the cost of water, you would have to look at the alternatives, you would have to look at the alternative benefits — I haven’t done that analysis.
Neither has Barnett.
Imagine you’re hiring someone to build you a house. Would you tell them, “Money is no object,” and then ask them to do the job as cheaply as possible? You’d be guaranteeing an inflated price. That’s exactly what Colin Barnett did today when he told Liam Bartlett he would not be deterred by cost blowouts.
When pressed for an upper limit on spending, Barnett reminded listeners that the Kalgoorlie Pipeline cost more than the WA Government’s entire annual budget. The 2004-05 State Budget was $12.7 billion — around the price Barry Haase suggested was more accurate. Are we to take it that Colin Barnett would pay more than $12 billion for the canal?
Tenix now knows they can jack up the price with impunity.

Unfortunatly the buffons who ring in on 6PR are saying it’s a wonderful idea and “Visionary”
This proves he mentalitity of the average 6PR listener – THey believe Colin’s bullshit without question and they don’t care about the cost, but whinge and cry about increased taxes.
I weonder what they’ll say when Colin puts in a “Canal Levy”
Canal vs Desalination
The issue that has dominated the WA election campagin is Colin Barnett’s canal plan… Here are all the posts pertaining to the debate, I will update this list as we go…
