Yep :-) And Jaye Radisich got a 2% swing and increasing in nearly all her boxes :-)

also, got my ugly mug on the ABC behind Jaye (I was the person in the wheelchair behind Jaye) :-)

Anyway, Barnett is finished, Olsen will be strung and Quartered and I predict Birney will run for Lib leader :-)

    Go you good things!

We in the east had to look up the news on the net to get the results. (Nothing in the morning papers)

Labor must be thanking their lucky stars that the Libs managed to put such a goose into the leadership.

Spent last night listening to the election on News radio. Had to admit, for the first hour and a half, things weren’t really looking good, but they were from the crappy booths. And we’re still a chance in Bunbury and Murray still!

I visited Perth for the first time in my life in January 2004. It is a wonderful place to live with many glorious and beautiful citizens. Western Australia is full of diversity and splendour naturally and long may it remain.

May the red sun always shine on Dorothy’s great frontier!

Well nostro you still haven’t answered my question as to whether the stupid people have got the stupid govt they deserve?

Of course they were never stupid and so the plasma screen mob, given the choices they faced, didn’t get it wrong again as they never do. Now I didn’t know the WA state scene intimately but Rob and Nic White, et al gave us a pretty good glimpse of the protagonists and the issues. It became clear to me that although Gallop didn’t exactly inspire, Barnett was a carpet-bagger like Latham with similar results. Ladders of opportunity and a warm fuzzy facade were swept away by an arm wrenching episode outside a radio station, just as a man of vision was swept aside when his grand vision didn’t add up and Howard said he thought the canal was an ‘interesting concept’. Exactly what the plasma screen mob were thinking too John. That doesn’t mean that a Gallop govt doesn’t face the very real problem now of ‘where’s the water coming from?’ Welcome back to the office on Monday as usual.

While your’e in a jovial mood Rob, would you like to answer my question as to whether you feel the new Gallop govt should extend their visionary community service initiative for secondary students to tertiary ones? Personally I would have thought such a visionary policy would be best introduced on a top down basis. (chuckle!)

Bubbly was great, though most people I spoke to reported with grins on their faces that they were ‘drunk on life’. Yeah, sure.

Very exciting result in Kingsley, though I’m upset about my own seat of Darling Range. We came so close, then it all disappeared. Ah well. You can’t have it all.

I will be interested to see how the upper house goes – go Louise.

(Carita, Louise is looking really good at the moment…unfortunately at the expense of Lee Bell… shame we can’t have both and kick out the Libs :()

Now the muzz of Tetley’s ale, shiraz and a back to front cigarette has settled down, it’s worth mentioning what a great win it was. The canal was stupidity prime but covered over a lot of underlying idiocy like one note law and order solutions and counterproductive bagging of reform efforts for female prisoners. The relationship with the West Australian and Tenix took me back to the Burke years. The ALP has put this behind them with a quiet provision of community goods and services. It’s not exciting but it’s what people are expecting from state governments and why they looked to Labor.

A great job with this Rob.

Yes, but what was the result of the referendum?

I was working up in Mindarie and it was great to see John Quigley win the seat. I even got on TV – I was the guy in the white tshirt on the left of the screen when Quigley was being interviewed :)

Update Swan Hills has 4% swing to the ALP :-)

I believe it was due to a VERY well run campaign, plus the fact the liberal candidate lost voters when opened his mouth and utered the words,”I’m a Christian”, an Finacial Advisor” :-)

Also, there was a team of Volunteers who set upo the booths from 10pm Friday Night and guarded them till 6am :-)

Have Guido and yawn. Running on the they were lucky line, WA will be sorry, Liberals are the natural party blah blah blah. No mention of the actual poll results which showed a 5% wing towards Labor and little desertion towards minor parties.

I didnt celebrate. It was really a non event for me, since I wouldnt have cared a huge amount if the Libs won, the contest was that depressing with two ridiculously bad parties. Certainly not worth a celbration.

I was however quite pleased about the NO vote winning :)

Nic, you didn’t celebrate (or comiserate) because you didn’t make any in depth emotional investment in the outcome. Until you do, one way or another, you’ll only skirt the edges of the political arena.

I did that for the federal election, and for the USA one. This one just wasnt worth it.

All I wanted was for the government to get rid of the 16th century closing times. Next time don’t hold a referendum just do it. To those who voted no, you ruined it now but not forever. Spare me your bull re family life etc etc. You don’t have to go to the shop but if you had voted yes I could.
