Joyce vs Coonan

A while ago, reader David Miles pointed me towards this interview with Barnaby Joyce. I intended to post about it at the time, but for some reason it slipped my mind. Anyway, here’s the interesting part:

Helen [Coonan] is so typical of that Liberal elite from Sydney’s eastern suburbs whose main view of the world is the harbour. Just completely out of touch with working rural Australia.

I picked up the phone the other day and this very superior sounding woman from Helen’s office told me that “Senator Coonan will be on the Sunshine Coast at the weekend” and would I like to pop down and see her.

Well, no, I couldn’t just “pop” down. It’s a nine-hour drive from here to the Sunshine Coast. Did she think I had nothing to do for the next three days?

Coonan has the ministerial jet, she is on the public purse, and she wants my vote on Telstra — I don’t want anything from her — and yet here she is between sessions at the opera and her beloved French restaurants telling me to drop everything to rush to see her. The arrogance is breathtaking.

Ouch. Now Joyce has apologised — not because it’s untrue, but because John Anderson asked him to.

You only have to look at Coonan and hear her to see he was spot on in his description.

Barnaby Joyce is my hero. His description of the libs as “they all look as if they think they’ve got something special in their lunch boxes” is spot on.

And I love the way he told Anderson in reply that the Nats were getting heavied by the libs, and that Anderson was expected to represent the nats.

    tee hee.

Barnaby Joyce speaks common sense re Telstra and should resign from the Nats and go it alone as an independant and REALLY stuff it up for Howard :-)

Thank God for the arrival in the Senate of an honest man new Sen. Barnaby Joyce.

It’s about time someone reminded John Howard that his Government is supposed to work for the benefit of the whole nation rather than install a non-accountable government addicted to a greed-driven economic ideology of Privatisation which generally only serves the interest of foriegn owned big business and their cohorts.

John Howard should understand that Australia really does not need the Singapore Government owning Telstra as well as Optus. And that with some 80% (by volume of trade) of the domestic economy now being controlled by foriegn owned entities we have the economic profile more of a 3rd world nation than that of a developed state.

Pity our Grandchildren if good men like Barnaby Joyce fail to halt the nations slide into oblivion!
