iPod Ten: Radio Detective Edition

Get this and get it straight! Crime is a sucker’s road and those who travel it wind up in the gutter, the prison or the grave. There’s no other way, but they never learn.

I’ve started listening to old radio plays of detective stories. They typically run for about half an hour, and they’re great for listening to on the train. I haven’t listened to all of these stories yet, but I will link to an mp3 so you can download each yourself.

Thanks Robert. Love a bit of hard boiled. I went gooogling for exactly this kind of stuff a few months back and couldn’t come up with much. You’ve struck gold!

There’s plenty more where that came from, Amanda!

Here’s a big set of Dragnet, and some more Sam Spade. There’s a podcast featuring a different detective each episode, and a bunch more here.

Bring back Larry “I hate crime” Kent! This was one of the most popular radio series of the 1950s and 60s. Set in Sydney, hard boiled, great sound FX. Starring, I think, a teenaged Reg Livermore who sounded like a middle-aged, seen-it-all private eye.

jaf, I’ve come across a few “old time radio” sites selling CDs of Larry Kent, but I haven’t found any free mp3s, unfortunately.
